What To Do When You Turn 62

Warning:  This blog contains images of old

people drinking alcohol and having fun.

When I die don't cry for me
 Don't bury me at all...

(extra points if you can finish the verse)

Khun Sohm

My friend Sohm was the mastermind for this party to celebrate my 62nd birthday.  He arrived first and immediately poured a glass of beer.  I thought it was for him, but instead he placed the beer at the spirit house and offered a blessing.  It must have been a good one because what followed was a very fun time for everyone.

My friend Aoy, above, has a bakery and coffee shop in Mae Faek.  She brought blueberry cheese cake and apple pie.

Here’s the karaoke guys getting set up.  In Thailand, if you don’t have karaoke then you aren’t really having a party.

When I die don't cry for me
Don't bury me at all
Place my livin', laughin', lovin' bones
In a jar of alcohol
Hundred proof alcohol

Extra points if you know who wrote this song.  Should be easy for Tahoe folks

Hint:  boney fingers

Khun Sohm’s family took care of the cooking.  Here is Mae and her son Bpii May (sounds like 'be my') cooking shrimp.

Bpii May was supposed to be distributing the french fries but decided on a different plan of action, or inaction.  Sitting with him is his father, Oong, who cooked the chickens and octopus.

Mae whipping up something delicious.  All of the food was absolutely positively wonderful and just kept coming and coming.

Sohm has more children and grandchildren than I can keep track of.  Here is one of them presenting me with a gift.

Don’t bother me – I’m eating.

Everyone thinks he’s a photographer.

I think these two are brothers, but it's hard to know because everyone addresses each other as "brother" or "sister," "uncle" or "aunt."  They were trying to sing a duet.  Hilarious, but you had to be there to really appreciate their antics.

Karaoke and just a few beers.

Enough party – time for bed.
